X-Ray Image Management System

Overview

About Dental Technology Company

Our client is a dental technology provider focused exclusively on the technology needs of modern dental practices. Rather than pushing one-size-fits-all solutions, our client follows a practice-first approach to ensure each office receives the right combination of imaging software, practice management tools, hardware, and infrastructure.

Their Challenge

Dentists are experts in patient care, not software infrastructure. Yet modern dental practices increasingly rely on complex imaging and data systems. Unfortunately for these dental practices, the dental software market has increasingly shifted toward closed, cloud-only ecosystems that tightly bundle imaging software with proprietary hardware. While convenient for vendors, this model creates significant risk for dental practices. Imaging software often works with only one specific sensor, stores all patient records in proprietary formats, and forces practices into perpetual subscription fees to maintain access to legally required X-ray data.

For many dental offices (especially those with limited internet connectivity, mobile dentistry operations, or large multi-computer environments), cloud-only systems introduce performance issues, operational downtime, and long-term cost concerns. Practices that want to change sensors, retire, sell their practice, or operate in low-connectivity environments are left with few viable options. Our client set out to solve a fundamental business problem: how to give dental practices full control over their imaging data and infrastructure without sacrificing usability, performance, or regulatory compliance.

Our Solution

Saritasa worked with our client to architect and deliver a flexible dental imaging platform designed around the real operational needs of modern dental practices. Instead of forcing dentists into rigid, cloud-only ecosystems, we helped create a solution that gives practices full control over how and where their data is stored (locally, in the cloud, or in a hybrid model that evolves with their business). The platform was built to reduce vendor lock-in, support a wide range of imaging hardware, and remain performant even in environments with limited or unreliable internet connectivity. By prioritizing interoperability, reliability, and long-term data ownership, the solution empowers dental practices to adopt advanced imaging technology without sacrificing autonomy, compliance, or operational continuity.

Our Approach

What Saritasa Did

Open Imaging Architecture

Saritasa built the imaging platform around the TWAIN protocol, enabling compatibility with a broad range of dental X-ray sensors and imaging devices. This approach gives dentists the freedom to change hardware without losing access to historical patient records or retraining their entire staff.

Flexible Local, Cloud, and Hybrid Deployment

The system was architected to operate fully on a local server, fully in the cloud, or as a hybrid of both. Practices can move between deployment models as their needs evolve, supporting everything from single-location offices to multi-location dental groups.

Client-Server Performance Optimization

Recognizing that many dental offices operate dozens of workstations simultaneously, Saritasa designed the platform to perform efficiently in high-demand, low-bandwidth environments. This avoids the latency and bottlenecks common in cloud-only imaging systems.

Secure Data Syncing and Backup

Saritasa implemented robust database synchronization between local servers and AWS-based cloud infrastructure. This ensures patient data is protected, legally compliant, and recoverable without forcing practices into permanent subscription-based hosting.

Advanced Imaging Tools

The application includes modern imaging capabilities such as zoom, rotation, color inversion, magnification, and exposure adjustments. Our team carefully designed a contemporary user experience that improves diagnostic workflows without requiring dentists to learn complex software systems.

Regulatory-Aware Software Design

As a Class II medical device subject to FDA approval, the platform was built with regulatory requirements in mind, including data integrity, auditability, and long-term record retention.
