About The Produce Box

The Produce Box is a family-owned online marketplace that delivers the freshest local food straight from North Carolina farmers and makers to customers’ doorsteps. Supporting over 100 local farms and 90 artisan foodmakers, they handle marketing, cold storage, and last-mile delivery so their partners can focus on growing and crafting quality products. Their mission is to build a stronger, more resilient local food system by connecting local eaters with local producers.

Their Challenge

After more than a decade of success, The Produce Box needed to modernize its aging software platform to keep up with growing customer demand and streamline operations. Their existing system, built on an older PHP framework, had become difficult to maintain and limited their ability to improve performance or add new features. The Produce Box turned to Saritasa for help maintaining, upgrading, and eventually rebuilding their core technology infrastructure.

Our Solution

Saritasa helped The Produce Box stabilize and modernize their custom-built ERP and ordering platform. We began by migrating their system from Linode to AWS for improved performance and scalability. Next, we upgraded their core application to PHP 7.4 to extend the life of their system as we conducted full code rewrite using modern technologies like Laravel and Angular. This rebuild included a refreshed user interface and support for alternative payment methods, laying the groundwork for a faster, more flexible platform that supports future growth.

What Saritasa Did

Infrastructure Migration to AWS

We migrated The Produce Box’s infrastructure from Linode to AWS to enhance performance, reliability, and long-term scalability.

Application Upgrade to PHP 7.4

We upgraded the existing PHP application to a more modern and secure version, helping extend the life of the current platform.

Code Rewrite with Laravel & Angular

Once the application was stable, we rebuilt it using Laravel and Angular, replacing the legacy Yii and Symphony frameworks for better maintainability and user experience.
