The Challenge
Simplifying the creation of life-saving safety plans.
Meridian’s safety consultants help clients create custom Vehicle Safety Mitigation Plans (VSMPs) that determine exactly how and where to deploy barriers to keep pedestrians safe during events. These plans are submitted to local governments, fire departments, and other stakeholders as critical event documentation. But the process was slow and manual, relying on the tedious process of taking screenshots from Google Maps, marking up individual images, and creating PowerPoints.
Designing our solution
Meridian needed a professional, all-in-one solution to simplify planning, support client collaboration, and scale their consultative sales process. The platform had to do more than streamline operations, it needed to reflect the life-saving seriousness of their mission.
Process Turned Sales Tool
What originally started as a tool to aid in internal processes quickly evolved into a powerful sales asset. The ability to visually design, customize, and present VSMPs in real time helps Meridian close deals and communicate value to clients and stakeholders.


Google Maps-Centric Planning Interface
We wrapped the software around Google Maps, creating a visual tool for users to mark closures, measure intersections, and simulate barrier layouts using satellite and street views. The platform includes embedded tools for different risk levels, access types (pedestrian, emergency), and event needs.
Multiple User Types
The platform supports both internal users and a client portal. Meridian staff can guide event plans or invite clients to manage their own layouts. Creating a VSMP requires safety knowledge, so this easy-to-use tool helps Meridian’s clients start learning, collaborating and eventually creating their own plans.

Developing our solution
We developed the web application using React.js and Python, emphasizing usability, automation, and accuracy. The system integrates with Google Maps and supports real-time plan building, document generation, and smart logic all within a centralized platform.
Smart Equipment Recommendations
As users mark closures, the platform calculates distances and uses the pre-selected risk levels to recommend specific barrier setups from Meridian’s inventory. Smart logic reduces planning time, avoids errors, and ensures proper coverage for safety-critical areas.


PDF VSMP Document Generation
Every event plan auto-generates a professional-grade PDF VSMP complete with annotated maps, barrier placement visuals, screenshots, and bill-of-equipment details. This eliminates manual documentation and ensures all stakeholders, from city officials to fire departments, get clear, accurate safety documentation.
Event and Equipment Management
Clients and staff can view and manage event history and inventory through their secure portal. The system tracks what equipment a client already owns and what they’ll need to rent or purchase based on the VSMP, enabling smarter resource planning and laying the groundwork for CRM and rental integrations.
